What’s the scoop on Microgreens?

I feel like I am just dying to have spring get here! I just want to start our garden and to order a ton of baby chicks (I am not allowed at Tractor Supply from now until May for this reason 🙂 ). It hit me a few weeks ago that I could start some planters inside to get my gardening fix!

I stumbled across this new gardening trend, microgreens. I will be honest I never quite heard of these before but basically they are mini versions of many types of plants. These plants are then typically used to spice up your salads.

Eden Brothers

I found this great company, True Leaf Market! They had so many microgreen kits and seeds to choose from both hydroponic and soil based kits. I decided to give their Deluxe Microgreen Kit a try which included both the hydroponic and soil kits.

Day one! The kids help me plant these! We planted buckwheat in the soil tray and cabbage in the hydroponic tray!

When I first planted these I didn’t expect for them all to take off as well as they did. There are so many factors that go into being successful farmer. Having good quality seeds is a great place to start. As well as keeping human errors down. We have all been there and forget to water our plants, or maybe its to hot or cold in our homes. Who knows, it could be so many things! To my surprise they took off. It has been an awesome project with my kids, they have helped me from start to finish.

Day 3. We are starting to see the cabbage sprouting. The hydroponic kit was much easier to see the growth from start to finish!

What I loved most is the kits directions are so easy to follow. I enjoy gardening so these were very easy to grow. But I really think anybody could follow these easy directions to grow fresh herbs and veggies at home. Each morning we would use a spray bottle to water the plants. Once we hit around day 5 the plants grew to big and didn’t need to use the tray dome to cover them anymore. I would highly recommend this kit for anybody wanting to give microgreens a try! Quality seeds and equipment made this a simple and smooth experience!

Our buckwheat jungle! This is day 7, these guys just completely took off! They also taste delicious!!!
Day 7. The cabbage hasn’t grown quite as big as the buckwheat yet. It has a nice mild cabbage smell and taste to it. I love the bright purple color!

This has been such a fun experience to share with my children. We all got to play in the dirt and grow some fresh produce for our table! The kids had so much fun they twisted my arm into planting two more trays this evening! If you would like to check out the kits for yourself click the link below!
