    Pumpkin Pie

This fall I decided I was going to make my first pumpkin pie. I actually never made any kind of pie before because I thought it would be so time consuming, and lots of ways I could mess them up. I wanted to cook down a pumpkin and use fresh puree instead of the canned stuff. That was the hardest and most time consuming part of this whole recipe. I roasted the seeds and gave the pumpkin skin to our chickens. Everyone around here was very happy I made the pie, in fact the kids keep asking when I am going to make another one.. what have I gotten…

    Salmon Made Two Ways

Recently our neighbor went on a fishing trip. He caught so many salmon, he was nice enough to share some with us. I think salmon is something you really love or you hate it. It can have a stronger taste than other types of fish. I personally really love salmon, it took a few times trying it to really like it. It all comes down to how its made and how fresh it is, at least that’s my opinion. I decided to give two recipes a try with this salmon. We had salmon steaks and fillets, both were really good and simple to make. Keep in mind the salmon steaks…

    Ham, Peas and Potato Casserole

With the cooler weather coming, this means I can spend even more time in the kitchen making new recipes! I enjoy coming up with creative and different meals… however my kids aren’t always as thrilled when I get carried away with new recipes. For some reason veggies are just the worst thing in the world! Anyway, this recipe was super simple to make. Potato and peas are like the top two veggies my kids love so that was a no brainer to use them. I think that you could also substitute the peas for green beans and it would be just as good. My son Reese is currently having to…

Crockpot Raspberry Peach Chipotle Glazed Pork

This recipe was so good and easy to make! This time of the year I am just all about using the crockpot whenever I can. Recently I found this amazing company called Fredericksburg Farms. They are based in Texas, and what I love about them is everything is made and produced on the farm! I really try to support other farms when purchasing products. Once you get a taste of the farm life you realize the time and effort these farmers put into their crops and any products they sell. I think in our society we focus on what’s quick and cheap, and so many people are missing out on…

    Apple Crisp

It is officially apple season! It wouldn’t be fall without breaking out a few apple recipes. So far I have made 3 different apple recipes and I’m ready to share them with you! This first one is apple crisp!   This is the first time that I tried to make apple crisp on my own. It turned out so good, even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to go with it! The most time consuming part of any apple recipe is definitely peeling and coring the apples. Please share your apple crisp recipes, I would love to give them a try!   Ingredients 6 large apples (or…

    Homemade Hamburger Helper Recipe

I am always on the lookout for new recipes. Unfortunately, sometimes the children aren’t to thrilled with me when I try something “new”. I noticed on Pinterest recently there has been TONS of homemade hamburger helper recipes. I will admit I do love hamburger helper on occasion, but I was interested to see how the homemade version would turn out. I took a look at a few recipes and made a few changes to it.  I was pleasantly surprised how GOOD it was!! I will definitely be making this again, and it was a hit with the kids!! Garlic bread is a must with this! I added a twist to…

    Applesauce

Fall is officially here! Here in Pennsylvania we went from 80 degree weather down to 40s at night in a week! But with the arrival of fall, we can now break out the seasonal recipes! Every year that I can remember my mom, sister and I would make applesauce. Well if I’m completely honest our mom did most the cooking, and my sister and I were just helpers! Either way we were always super excited when she was making applesauce, and there always was a disagreement between my siblings of who would get to eat the fresh applesauce first! What I love about making applesauce is how easy it…

    Perfect Recipe for Fall!

Finally!!! My favorite time of the year is here!! What’s not to love about fall? The leaves are turning colors, the mornings are cooling down. But my favorite part is all the yummy recipes we have been putting off all summer. Who really wants to eat soup when its 90 degrees out? Certainly not me! Currently all the little ones are in bed and I am curdled up on the couch with a hot cup of tea and a cozy blanket. I don’t think life could get any better then this. Having young children dinner can become quite tricky at times. I think it is safe to say that ALL…
